I have added a link to the SIMPLEX.COM file from my SIMPLEX home page.
Make sure your browser downloads COM files just like an EXE file.
In order to run the DOS program, you need to prepare a text file
containing the formulation of the linear programming problem. Below
is a short overview of the format for the text file.
The first line is a short description of the problem.
The second line contains three values:
1) if the problem is a maximization problem, the first value is +1
if the problem is a minimization problem, the first value is -1
2) the second value is the total number of constraints (eg. the second
value will be 6 if you have 1 Less Than, 2 Equal To, and 3 Greater
Than constraints)
3) the third value is the number of variables that you have (eg. in
a diet problem you may want to find the optimal values for Protein,
Carbohydrates, and Fat: thus 3 variables)
The third line contains three values:
1) the number of Less Than constraints
2) the number of Equal To constraints
3) the number of Great Than constraints
The following lines are formulation of the problem:
- for each Less Than constraint, type the constraint coefficients
(one for each variable) and the right hand side value
- for each Equal To constraint, type the constraint coefficients
(one for each variable) and the right hand side value
- for each Greater Than constraint, type the constraint coefficients
(one for each variable) and the right hand side value
Note: the constraints MUST be entered in the above order (less than,
equals, greater than).
The last line is the Objective functions coefficients (one for each
variable).
