Community-Net - Highway to the Internet

Overview

This course cuts through the techno-babble and lets you find out in practical
terms how to use the Internet using the Calagry Community-Net service.

Even if you are a total novice, you will be amazed at how easy we will make
the Internet for you.

This is hands-on course and lots of fun.

Who should attend
-
This starts as a "beginner's tour" but you should be reasonable familiar
with the use of a computer and a keyboarding skills.

How Long
-
This is a two-session course, each one 3-4 hours long. Normally the course
is taught on two successive Saturdays.

The course is taught at University of Calgary

Who teaches

The course is taught by volunteers of the Calgary Community-Net Association.
Depending on class size, other volunteers are also present to assist the
students.

Become familiar with Internet terms and how they are used:
Gopher, Usenet, FTP, Lynx, Pine, Uploading, Downloading, World Wide Web,
Webcrawler, FAQ and many more

For non-members of Calgary Community-Net Association: $125.00.
This cost includes membership ($60.00)

For members: $65.00
Students will be given hardcopy handouts during the course, but are expected
to take their own notes as well, so please bring a pen and notebook. The
Calgary Community Network Association will be making shareware/freeware
telecommunications, compression and encode/decode software available for
a nominal charge (1-800k disc - IBM or Mac format).
Information Providers Course

terms how to write and code your home page on the Calgary Community-Net.
To be an Information Provider you must be a member of the Calgary Community-Net
Association.

Even if you are a total novice, you will be amazed at how easy it actually
is to design and write the code.

This is hands-on course and lots of fun.

This starts as a "beginner's tour" but you should be reasonable familiar
with the use of a computer and a keyboarding skills.

This is a one-session course, about 5 hours long. Normally the course is
taught on Saturdays.
