User Agreement
This Agreement represents the complete agreement and understanding between
the Calgary Community Network Association, (herein after called "CCNA"),
and User and supersedes any other written or oral agreement. Upon notice
published on-line via the CCNA domain services home page at http://www.calcna.ab.ca/,
CCNA may change these terms and conditions, and/or discontinue or change
the services offered.
Terms and Conditions of account use:
-
1.
-
This Agreement shall remain in effect until the User terminates its account
or CCNA cancels User's account. CCNA may occasionally require new registration
and account information by the User to continue this service. In addition,
the User shall notify CCNA in writing or by e-mail of any changes in the
account information, such as address or phone number.
-
2.
-
CCNA reserves the right to change the terms and conditions by publishing
on-line via the CCNA domain services home page at http://www.calcna.ab.ca/
at least 30 days in advance of the effective date of the change. Use by
the User after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the new terms
and conditions. If User does not agree to the new terms and conditions,
the User may cancel this Agreement at any time by giving CCNA proper written
notice in accordance with the terms and conditions stated herein. CCNA
also reserves the right to terminate an account at any time for any reason.
-
3.
-
All registered users of the CCNA must provide accurate information on their
application forms.
-
4.
-
CCNA will provide services on its host computing systems to individual
Users in exchange for compliance with the terms and conditions of this
document. CCNA services are defined as the use by the User of computing,
telecommunications, software, and information services provided by CCNA.
These services also include the provision of access to computing, telecommunications,
software and information services provided by others via the world-wide
computer network known as the Internet.
-
Access to the Internet is sometimes temporarily disrupted by mechanical
breakdown, technological changes, weather conditions and other forces beyond
CCNA's control. User agrees that such temporary disruptions are not a breach
of this agreement.
-
5.
-
When User has access to CCNA services such a e-mail, User agrees to maintain
a secure password to the account. It is recommended that the User change
the password on a regular basis to protect him/herself from the most common
breach of Internet security.
-
6.
-
User agrees not to use any CCNA services to obtain the passwords of users
on CCNA or other systems. The User agrees not to use CCNA services to make
unauthorized attempts to access the systems and networks of others.
-
7.
-
The User agrees not to use CCNA services to violate copyright or other
intellectual property rights of any author or publisher. For example, the
User may not upload or download commercial software in violation of software
license agreements.
-
8.
-
The User agrees to use the services provided by CCNA as permitted by applicable
local, provincial, and federal laws. The User agrees, therefore, not to
use these services to conduct any business or activity or solicit the performance
of any activity that is prohibited by law.
-
9.
-
The User agrees to refrain from the use of obscene, abusive or otherwise
objectionable language in either public or private messages. The User agrees
to refrain from mass posting of the same message to many inappropriate
Usenet newsgroups (Spamming). The User agrees to refrain from mass, unsolicited
e-mailings. The User agrees to post advertisements only where appropriate,
for instance in biz.for.sale, and other venues that specifically encourage
or allow advertising. The User agrees to respect the conventions of the
newsgroups, lists and networks to which the User is posting, including
rules more restrictive than, but not limited to, the above.
User agrees to
abide by CCNA's interpretation of the above. If the User needs help interpreting
or applying
these rules,
the User should ask CCNA by e-mail to Manager
for assistance.
-
10.
-
Any use of CCNA system resources that disrupts the normal use of the system
for other CCNA users is considered to be abuse of system resources and
is grounds for administrative intervention. Some examples of system abuse
include spawning dozens of processes, consuming excessive amounts of memory
or CPU for long periods of time, and staying attached to modems while not
"active" on the line.
-
11.
-
Violations of the CCNA conditions for use are unethical and may in some
cases be criminal offences. You are expected to report to CCNA any information
you may have concerning instances in which the conditions of use have been
or are being violated. When CCNA becomes aware of possible violations,
we will attempt to ask appropriate users about the matter. At the same
time, in order to prevent further possible unauthorized activity, CCNA
may suspend access to services to the individual account in question. Confirmation
of violations may result in cancellation of the individual account and/or
criminal prosecution. The account suspension may be rescinded at the discretion
of CCNA.
-
12.
-
CCNA reserves the right to monitor Users' actions when this is necessary
to determine whether or not the User is violating the conditions of use.

The User is solely responsible for the content and use of its account,
and shall indemnify and hold CCNA harmless for any and all loss, cost,
damage and expense due in whole or in part to the content and use of User's
account. CCNA shall not be responsible for any consequential or other damages
caused or alleged to be caused by User's account content or use on the
Internet, or the User's inability to use the CCNA.
