    This is IT!!

    Our first issue since 1995!

LURCHING out from the DEPTHS of cyberspace and BRUSHING aside the COBWEBS, the CCNA MUMMY...aka the Calgary Community Network Association NEWSLETTER, the CCNA News!, walks again! (OK, we admit it. One of us has recently seen the movie "The Mummy" - it got your attention and that's what we wanted.)

The CCNA News! plans to bring you news from the CCNA Board and various CCNA committees, a Did You Know? section of interesting tips, news of new additions or changes on the CCNA web site, and a special Input section for your email comments and suggestions. Watch for new informative and (hopefully) fun issues of the CCNA News! on the 1st and 15th of each month. We've kept an archive of past issues for those who love history.

So . . . go ahead. Have a look and then tell us what you think!

    We Now Own Our Server

Thanks to a generous donation from IBM Canada and the efforts of past Calgary Community Network Association (CCNA) President, Allan MacDonald, the CCNA now owns its server. For the past few years the CCNA had been leasing from IBM the equipment that connects CCNA members to the internet. Negotiations completed in June between IBM and Allan have resulted in an agreement where the server is now owned by the CCNA.

    PAT Power

Ed Kuntz, Chairperson for the new Technology Committee, recently visited all our satellite Public Access Terminal (PAT) sites (the Old Y Centre, CUPS, the Kerby Centre, and the Native Friendship Centre). Ed had encouraging meetings with the maintainers of each site and a better appreciation of their equipment and each site's expectations.

The CPL PATs now have two graphical browser stations in operation for accessing Hotmail accounts. The demand has been high for these terminals and we may want to add two more.

Members of the Technology Committee met recently with Don Ingram, the CCNA Systems Administrator, to discuss his duties and how the new Tech Committee can assist. Starting June 1st Don's position changed from full-time to part-time. The Tech Committee was formed to take care of technical difficulties arising with the PATs and to cover routine duties.
