Arusha, has recently joined the Calgary Community Network Association! Visit Arusha's new web site now located at http://calcna.ab.ca/arusha/ or at their new domain address http://arusha.ab.ca.
Arusha is a local social justice society that's been in Calgary since 1972. The Arusha Centre is a collectively run, member-supported organization that provides resources and programming on local and global social justice issues. Projects they currently have underway are:
Training For Transformation
Training for Transformation is an anti-racism education project that provides resources and training for schools and the community. For more information go to http://calcna.ab.ca/arusha/about.htm
Committee for Anti-Racism Education (CARE)
CARE is made up of parents, community members, educators, and youth striving to create racism-free schools. To learn more go to http://arusha.ab.ca/care.htm.
Bow Chinook Barter Community
The Bow Chinook Barter Community (BCBC) helps people help themselves and stimulates our local economy by connecting individuals and businesses. Every two months members can advertise a wide range of goods and services (child care, lessons, cleaning, trades or building supplies, to name a few) in the free Bow Chinook Barter Bulletin. The Bulletin has a section for members wanting goods and services, as well. These are paid through their local currency (called Bow Chinook HOURS). Find out more about BCBC at their new home http://calcna.ab.ca/bcbc/ or by using their new domain address http://bcbc.ab.ca.
Calgary Activist Network (CAN)
- The Calgary Activist Network is a collaboration of several local social groups and a local independent server owner to revive Arusha's Network Newsletter. The newsletter is a venue for local social justice and environment groups to announce their events. The paper copy is still in the works, but groups can announce their events and join an e-mail discussion list on the Internet version at the Calgary Activist Network. For more information visit the Calgary Activist Network web page.

Not Just Any Leap Year...
The approaching Leap Year could be another occasion for computer glitches. Some computers may not be able to properly calculate the Leap Year. See what ComputerWorld had to say about the Year 2000 Leap Year back in March, 1999.
Find out more about the New Millenium and why the Year 2000 is a Leap Year at the Royal Greenwhich Observatory.
On a side note, Feb.29 is also Sadie Hawkin's Day. In less liberated times, the rules for courtship were stricter for women. Women wishing to marry their beaus were allowed to pop the question only on one day, every four years. For more details, learn more about Sadie Hawkin's Day.
Things to Do on Family Day
For those of you off work or school on Family Day, Monday, February 21st, there are lots of places to go and things to do.
Take in some of the sights activities of the Calgary Winter Festival which runs from February 11-21st.
Check out the list of Things To Do
on the Found Locally site or
check out their Top Calgary Attractions page.
Calgary is home to several interesting museums linked on the CCNA Museum
If you are travelling by car, please remember there is snow and ice outdoors now and you should drive carefully. After all, some of those high snowbanks might block your view of small children who don't always look before they cross streets.
If you are using Calgary Transit, you might want to check your schedules as transit will be on Sunday levels of service on February 21st.
