Introduction

The following instructions explain how to configure Windows XP to connect to CCNA's Dialup service using the New Connection Wizard.


System requirements

Configuring Internet Options

To configure Windows XP for a dialup service, you need to configure the Internet Options control panel and then run the New Connection Wizard.

To configure Internet Options:

This will start the New Connection Wizard (see Fig.2).

Configuring New Connection Wizard

To configure the New Connection Wizard to connect to CCNA's Dialup service:

In the "Completing the New Connection Wizard" window:

Testing your connection

Once you have finished running the New Connection Wizard, your computer is ready to connect to CCNA's Dialup service.

To test your connection:

The modem will then attempt to connect to the CCNA's Dialup service. If successful a message will appear temporarily in the system tray indicating it is connected (see Fig.6).

When you have connected successfully, you can begin using PPP applications such as your email client and web browser to obtain your mail or search the Internet.

To disconnect from a connection:


Troubleshooting

If repeated dialup attempts fail, you may have entered your CCNA username or password incorrectly; re-enter your username and password and try again. If the CCNA username and password are correct, check the other settings.

To check your settings:

If a dialup attempt connects and then quits or the connection is unreliable, your modem settings may need changing.
