Introduction

The following instructions explain how to configure Windows 2000 to connect to CCNA's Dialup service using the Internet Connection Wizard.

These instructions assume your modem is installed and operating correctly. For help installing a modem, search for "Installing a modem" under Help in Windows 2000.

To connect to CCNA'S Dialup service with Windows 2000, you need to use the Internet Options control panel and configure the Internet Connection Wizard.

To use Internet Options:

This will start the Internet Connection Wizard.

Creating a shortcut

The Wizard has configured your computer to automatically dialup whenever a PPP application like a web browser is started. You can also create a shortcut on your desktop for connecting manually.

To create a shortcut on your desktop:

A "CCNA" shortcut should be available on your desktop.


Testing your connection

To test your connection:

Your modem will then attempt to connect to CCNA'S Dialup service. If successful, a "Connection Complete" message will appear along with a brief pop-up message in the system tray.

You can now close the "Connection Complete" window and begin using PPP applications like a web browser or your email program.

To disconnect from a connection:


Troubleshooting

If repeated dialup attempts fail, you may have entered your CCNA username or password incorrectly; re-enter your username and password and try again. If the CCNA username and password are correct, check the other settings.

To check your settings:

If a dialup attempt connects and then quits or the connection is unreliable, your modem settings may need changing.
