Introduction

The following instructions explain how to configure MacOS X 10.3 to connect to CCNA's Dialup service. Earlier versions of MacOS X will be similar.

MacOS X includes built-in software called Internet Connect for connecting to dialup services. MacOS X also includes email software called Apple Mail and the web browser Microsoft Internet Explorer.

System requirements

The minimum system requirements are:

Configuring Network

Before Internet Connect can be used Network needs to be configured for PPP, TCP/IP and modem.

To configure the Network settings:

Configuring PPP

To configure PPP:

  • In the Network window, click the PPP tab
  • In "Service Provider" field, type: CCNA
  • In "Account Name" field, enter your CCNA username
  • In "Password" field, enter your CCNA password
  • In "Telephone Number" field, type: 403-774-5641
  • In "Alternate Number" field, leave blank

    Testing your connection

To use Internet Connect to make a dialup connection:

Internet Connect will then attempt to connect to CCNA's Dialup service.

If the connection is successful, a timer will appear next to telephone icon in the menu bar.

When the timer appears, you can then begin using PPP applications such as Apple Mail and Microsoft Internet Explorer.

    To end a dialup connection:

The connection will then disconnect and the timer will disappear from the menu bar.

    Troubleshooting

If repeated dialup attempts fail, you may have entered your CCNA username or password incorrectly; re-enter your username and password and try again. If the CCNA username and password are correct, check the other settings.

If a dialup attempt connects and then quits or the connection is unreliable, your modem settings may need changing. In the modem settings, try selecting a a different modem model or disable the Error correction and compression setting.

If you tried all the above changes but still cannot connect, contact CCNA.
