You only have a limited amount of disk space assigned to you.
CCNA accounts have 800 K of disk space to store files and mail. So don't collect too many files in your directory, or your e-mail messages will start to bounce (because you have exceeded your assigned disk quota).
Instead, if there is something important you want to keep, download it to your own computer.
If you find that you are having Disk Quota Problems, you may have to clean out your Home Directory. This may solve the problem.
WARNING
The CCNA does not keep backup copies of user files. Once it has been deleted it CAN NOT be restored. For your safety you should keep backup copies of your files on your home computer.
There is a Personal Disk Space Maintenance script to make life easier for you. You can find it in the Maintenance Utilities Menu. You can get there as follows:
You will see a listing of all subdirectories and files in your user space, this includes your personal configuration files which start with a period(.), an example being your signature file
.signature
** Although It is NOT usually a good idea to get rid of these dot files, the .forward file may be an exception. This file is used to forward your mail to another e-mail address. To receive mail on this e-mail address, you will need to delete the file that forwards it to the other e-mail address.**
To the left of each file name you will see the following
* ( )
The above is the flag for the file which tells the program you are using either to keep the file or delete it. To 'flag' the file for deletion use the down arrow key until( ) is highlighted opposite the file you want to delete.
To toggle the 'flag' use the enter key or the right arrow key and the flag will change to
* ( * )
For example if you had decided to delete the file mail.txt it would appear as follows
* ( * ) mail.txt
If you realised that you actually wanted to keep the file you can reset the individual 'flag' by using the enter key or right arrow key. You have to have the relevant 'flag' highlighted.
If you have flagged a lot of files you can reset them by going to the bottom of the page and highlighting 'Reset" and using the enter key. This removes all the flags that you have just entered
To actually delete the file(s) go to the bottom of the screen and highlight 'Delete Selected Files'
Before you carry out the following action, are you positive that you do not want to keep the files
Use the enter key and the files are deleted.
A screen is shown telling you which files have been deleted, to get out of this screen use the Left Arrow key
You have now carried out the maintenace on your home directory
