Personal Home Page

  1. Personal Home Pages can be published by Members.
  2. The directory is a sub-directory of your user directory;
  3. This directory is named 'public_html';  If your account does not have this directory it can be created at the OS $ prompt in a text session or in an FTP session to your account.
  4. Personal Home Pages will NOT be linked to the Calgary Community-Net menu system - this preculdes any litigation against the Calgary Community-Net for contents of personal home pages. You are responsible for what you put in;
  5. There is no specific help either from the HelpDesk or the HTML Help account for using the HTML language in personal home pages;
  6. All HTML code is valid in your file with the exception of 'Forms' and 'image mapping' syntax, as this is not supported by the Calgary Community-Net. There is a generic icons directory for gif pictures which you can reference from you file. The file must be in ascii format - files generated in a word processing program can contain hidden code that really confuses browsers.

    Publishing Your Home Page

    1. Upload the file from your home computer to your user directory "public_html' on the Calgary Community-Net server, by using a graphical ftp client..
    2. Your Personal Home Page URL

      In order for anyone to read your 'Personal Home Page', you must let them know the Universal Resource Locator, (URL), of your page. This URL uniquely identifies your page to the entire Internet.

      If you make your first filename in your public_html directory 'index.html' your URL will be:

      http://www.calcna.ab.ca/~userid/

      where userid is your login name.

      If you use another filename then you need to add this to the end of the above URL.
